What is Farflung Game?
Farflung is a geography game built around a simple choice: which country fits the clue? Every daily expedition contains five prompts. Several countries can be correct, so the challenge is not only recalling a valid answer—it is deciding whether to choose the obvious safe country or reach for a less familiar answer that travels farther.
The map is the play surface. You pan across the world, zoom toward the country you want and place one pin. Nothing is submitted until you press Drop pin, so you can move the marker and check the country name before committing. After five prompts, you reach camp and can review the distance, correct countries and field notes behind the day’s expedition.

Your first expedition
Read, pin, commit and travel
- 01
Read the whole prompt
Think of at least one country that definitely satisfies the condition before chasing a rarer option.
- 02
Find it on the map
Drag or pan the chart, zoom toward the region and tap or click the country to place your marker.
- 03
Check your pin
The selected country appears before submission. Move the pin if it landed at sea, on a border or on the wrong place.
- 04
Press Drop pin
Your answer is final for that prompt. A correct country adds distance; a miss adds none.
- 05
Reach camp
After the fifth answer, inspect every result, discover alternatives and read the facts you missed.
Distance rewards curiosity
A correct answer can take you 40–100 km
Rarity is a fixed editorial tier for each qualifying country. It does not change while you play, and speed does not add a bonus. First make sure your answer is right; then consider whether a less obvious country also fits.

- 40 kmCommonThe answer many players think of first.
- 55 kmUncommonCorrect, but a step beyond the default choice.
- 70 kmRareA less familiar country that still clearly fits.
- 85 kmElusiveAn answer many expeditions overlook.
- 100 kmFarflungThe prompt’s surprising gem.
One compact daily ritual
Five prompts create one complete journey
The daily game is short enough to finish with a coffee, yet varied enough to test more than memorised capital cities. Prompts can connect geography with languages, borders, rivers, flags, sport, history and culture. Each one admits several countries, which means the interesting decision happens before you ever touch the map.
The default pace is calm and untimed. If you prefer urgency, Difficulty can add a 60-second clock, hide country names under the pin or remove borders. The rules stay the same: one committed country per prompt and one daily expedition for the date.

- Prompt 1Find a reliable starting answer.
- Prompt 2Look for another route across the map.
- Prompt 3Balance certainty against rarity.
- Prompt 4Use the atlas, not just recall.
- Prompt 5Make the last pin count.

Open every correct country on the answer map
At camp, every prompt becomes an explorable layer. Countries that counted are coloured by rarity, and dotted names lead to fact cards. Open a country, read why it fits, then move through the other answers with arrows or a swipe.
This is where Farflung turns a score into geography knowledge. A safe answer confirms what you knew; an elusive or Farflung answer shows a connection you may never have considered. The result is more useful than a simple green or red mark because you can see the whole set on the same map.
You can also return to completed expeditions from the Logbook. Reopening an older day does not alter its score—it lets you revisit the pins, answer lists and field notes at your own pace.

Build a passport across 195 pinnable countries
Your Passport turns repeated play into a visual collection. Continent pages show where your expedition knowledge has reached, while country pages preserve the rarity stamps you have earned. It gives every daily game a longer arc without changing the five-prompt format.
The passport is also a practical study tool. A blank rarity square tells you there is more to discover; a stamped country gives you a memory tied to a real prompt and result. Instead of memorising a list in isolation, you build a map of associations over time.

Practical expedition strategy
Secure the answer before hunting the gem
A common correct country always beats a brilliant-sounding miss. Use these habits to travel farther without turning a relaxed geography game into blind guessing.

Keep one safe country in mind
Start every prompt with an answer you trust. Search for a rarer alternative only after you have a reliable fallback.

Read field notes, not just scores
Remember why a country qualified. One geographic connection can help with languages, borders, rivers and history later.

Use practice for unfamiliar controls
The repeatable one-prompt Practice round lets you pan, zoom and submit without using today’s five-prompt expedition.

Mouse, keyboard and touch
Move around the world without losing your place
- Desktop pointer
- Click to place or move the pin. Drag to pan, and use the wheel or +/− controls to zoom.
- Keyboard
- Tab to the map, use arrow keys to pan, + and − to zoom, then Space or Enter to drop a placed pin.
- Phone or tablet
- Drag the map with one finger, pinch to zoom and tap a country to position the marker.
- Fullscreen
- Use the button above the frame to expand the unchanged original game. Press it again to return to this page.
A pin on a territory counts for the country it belongs to—for example, Greenland counts as Denmark. If the marker lands at sea or on uncertain ground, move it onto a country before pressing Drop pin.
