Terms of use

Last updated 8 October 2026

These terms apply up to and including 21 October 2026. From 22 October 2026, the new terms of use apply.

These terms apply to Farflung at farflung.cc, run by Steven Li (“we”, “us”). By playing, you agree to them.

The game

Farflung is a daily geography game.

Availability and accuracy

The game may occasionally be unavailable or contain mistakes.

The answer lists

Each prompt has an answer list based on common reference sources, including Wikipedia, and common usage. The notes shown with the answers explain edge cases. Our rulings explain how we decide what counts, including countries and territories.

You can report an answer you think is wrong from the results screen or by emailing [email protected]. We make the final decisions on answer lists.

Results

Your logbook and passport record what you find as you play. How each is counted can change as the game does. When it does, we may work out your passport again from your saved results; that does not change those results or their distance.

Corrections to answer lists will not lower results already recorded, but a correction can fix a miss: when one adds an answer, a pin you had already dropped on it is counted. If a correction happens before your finished expedition is recorded, the result included in the day’s overall results may differ from the one shown when you played.

Playing fair

Don’t:

We may block access and exclude results that break these rules.

Sharing

Share your results wherever you like. The share text is yours to post.

Content and credits

The game’s original content, design, artwork, sounds and code belong to us or our licensors. You may play and share your results, but copying the prompts or answer lists wholesale, or reusing the game’s design, requires our permission unless the law or an applicable licence allows it.

Third-party materials have their own terms. These include Natural Earth map data (public domain), OpenFreeMap, © OpenMapTiles Data from OpenStreetMap (© OpenStreetMap contributors), wordfreq (CC BY-SA 4.0), and Peter Hull’s VT323 typeface (SIL Open Font License).

The browser distribution includes third-party software copyright notices, licence terms and disclaimers.

Your privacy

Our privacy policy explains what data we keep, how we use it, and your choices and rights.

Changes and stopping play

We’ll publish updates here with a new date. For changes that materially affect your rights or obligations, we’ll give you clear notice in the game before they take effect.

You can stop playing at any time. The privacy policy explains how to delete your account and request deletion of your records.
